From the Field: An Update from Tim Daniell

Ministering to Children and Families from the Philippines and Indonesia

What a joy it is for me to connect with those across Asia-Pacific who have been impacted through the ministry of Orphan’s Promise! In 2015, I have been blessed to meet with OP beneficiaries from across India, Thailand, China, Mongolia, and just recently in the Philippines and Indonesia. God is working, and it is exciting to see the transformation that He brings in the lives of vulnerable children and families.

Strengthening Families - A glimpse into the Father's heart

Psalm 68:5-6 gives me a glimpse into the caring heart of our loving Heavenly Father - “A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families.” I have had the blessing of growing up in a warm loving family. I believe God intended this for all children, but I also realize this is not the case for many.

Keeping Families Together Works!

Ten-year-old Faa has never met her mother.  Her father is in prison.  When she was just one day old, her grandparents, Pongsee and Chert, began caring for her.  They are the only family Faa has known.  Faa’s grandma, Pongsee, told us, “I needed to take care of her.  I never thought to take her to an orphanage.”  Faa loves her grandparents and told us, “I love her like she is my real mother.  She has a good heart; she gives me everything I need.”

Ongoing Help & Change in Roma Community

The following update is from my husband, Yuriy who is checking on projects within the Roma communities that Orphan's Promise has been working with for the past several years. You may already know how we have winterized homes, built others, provided warm blankets and coats, conducted seminars to teach them how to plant, harvest and store their food so they would not starve in the harsh Ukrainian winters. We have also helped them build a bath house so they can have a hot bath for the first time in their lives.

Hearing The Cry of The Poor

“Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.”  Proverbs (21:13)

When you look into the eyes of a hungry or frightened child, you are looking into the eyes of Jesus crying out to you for help. He cries out to you in the orphaned, abandoned and at risk children, some of the most vulnerable children in the world.

A Family Helped Is A Family Saved

One of our Orphan's Promise offices sent a report recently about a Dungun family living in the outer reaches of Ukraine. The mother's name is Sanyura and she plants vegetables with her kids every summer in their little garden, while they all live in a small tent. She and her elder children work the land from early morning till late evening.  Dungun people, (emigrants from China) are very hard-working people. Their fields are their livelihood and their income depends on the harvest.

Skills To Grow & Develop

Orphan's Promise recently teamed up with a ministry in St. Petersburg, Russia to provide for aged-out orphans living in their residential program.  Much like Orphan’s Promise programs, they help teenage orphans integrate successfully into mainstream life through mentorship and teaching practical skills. Graduate orphans live together in a typical Russian apartment in groups of 6-8 with full-time mentors and participate in weekly activities that aid in both spiritual and educational growth.
