Orphan's Promise & YWAM: Serving Hope In The Slums Of Yangon, Myanmar

Tim Daniell serves at the Project Manager for all Orphan's Promise projects in Asia and the Pacific region. He is also heavily involved in directing our Keeping Families Together (KFT) initiative, which aims to equip families with the necessary tools and support to stay together, eliminating the orphan crisis in the process. Through our KFT and orphan care programs, we are changing the lives of thousands of children and families. Tim was recently in Mayanmar visiting a cooperative effort between Orphan's Promise and Youth With A Mission (YWAM) Myanmar. He shared his thoughts.

It's A New Day In Vietnam

In 1970 I began wearing a POW/MIA bracelet for Major Ted Gostas, who was being held captive in a North Vietnamese prison.  When you agreed to purchase and wear a POW/MIA bracelet, the commitment was that you would agree never to take it off until the soldier whose name you wore was either released or declared officially deceased.  That war in Vietnam was a painful, divisive event in our country’s history.  The aftermath of this war left a trail of bitterness for years to come.

From the Field: A Note from Tim Daniell

Lives Are Being Transformed in Southern and Central Thailand This year, Orphan’s Promise (OP) is blessed to be able to support vulnerable children and families in 12 projects across Thailand, from the far mountainous North to the deep costal South. In August 2015, I had a chance to visit five of these projects with my staff member, Pook, in southern and central Thailand. We were so encouraged by the lives being transformed and the quality project partners Orphan’s Promise is privileged to work with.

Strengthening Families - A glimpse into the Father's heart

Psalm 68:5-6 gives me a glimpse into the caring heart of our loving Heavenly Father - “A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families.” I have had the blessing of growing up in a warm loving family. I believe God intended this for all children, but I also realize this is not the case for many.

A Journey of Renewed Hope

In May 2008, Cyclone Nargis ripped through the Irrawaddy Delta region of Myanmar. There was widespread destruction with thousands of people estimated to have tragically lost their lives. Not long after the disaster, Orphan’s Promise connected with a ministry partner to establish a much needed preschool in the devastated Irrawaddy region. This was greatly appreciated by the community.

Restoration in Ukraine's East

DSC_0052_1As warfare continues rage on in many parts of eastern Ukraine, the Ukrainian military has set other cities that were once war zones free. Sloviansk, a city where OP has done much work over the years, was one of the hardest hit cities. Now that the pro-Russian separatists have fled, people are returning to their war torn city and surveying the loss. The destruction is immense.

Ukraine: An Epicenter of Charity and War

Slaviansk, a city in eastern Ukraine with about 130,000 residents, has suddenly gained international notoriety, as it has become one of the epicenters of the ongoing crisis in Ukraine. A gateway city to the eastern regions of Donetsk, Lugansk, and Kharkiv, it is a strategic location for pro-Russian separatists. However, prior to the international attention the city has gained in recent months, Slaviansk was the epicenter of another revolution, a revolution surrounding adoption.
