Art for Change

Rudolph Harris traveled to Mariupol, Ukraine with his wife in the summer
of 2013. During the trip he spent time
at a small Christian orphanage where
he got to know a group of children. A photographer and artist by trade, Rudolph had the idea to photograph the children in hopes of later painting their portraits. He never dreamed that in less than a year these same children would have to be evacuated from their home and relocated to Western Ukraine because the growing military conflict had nearly reached their front door.

Ukraine: An Epicenter of Charity and War

Slaviansk, a city in eastern Ukraine with about 130,000 residents, has suddenly gained international notoriety, as it has become one of the epicenters of the ongoing crisis in Ukraine. A gateway city to the eastern regions of Donetsk, Lugansk, and Kharkiv, it is a strategic location for pro-Russian separatists. However, prior to the international attention the city has gained in recent months, Slaviansk was the epicenter of another revolution, a revolution surrounding adoption.

New Hope in Thailand

Every orphaned, displaced and neglected child yearns for a safe nurturing home, filled with love and kindness. The home that 32 Shan children share is no different; it is a home run by one of our ministry partners in Thailand. When many of these children first arrived at this Christian home in Northern Thailand, their young lives had been shattered by violence, fear, and the tragedies of war in Burma. Now they have found a safe haven where they can find love, security and hope for a brighter future.

Hearing The Cry of The Poor

“Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.”  Proverbs (21:13)

When you look into the eyes of a hungry or frightened child, you are looking into the eyes of Jesus crying out to you for help. He cries out to you in the orphaned, abandoned and at risk children, some of the most vulnerable children in the world.

A New Life For Oksana

Since Orphan’s Promise began its work in Ukraine, reaching orphans through camp settings has been a major part of our ministry focus each summer.

Across Ukraine, Russia, Moldova and Armenia, Orphan’s Promise is sponsoring thousands of orphaned and vulnerable youth to attend Christian summer camps.  Camps where they get a break from routine orphanage life, hear about the love of Jesus, and meet caring Christian adults who have an interest in their lives.

Helping Children Grow

Every year, Orphan’s Promise provides an opportunity for children living in orphanages to attend camp. I cannot express what a difference this makes in the lives of these children. Many of them are living very sad lives with little interaction with any kind of loving supervisors. If they don’t have a place to go in the summer it is spent out in a barren yard with very little supervision and opens the door for these kids to get into serious trouble. We recently received a batch of letters from these children and I have listed a few of them here.
