This winter has been one of the coldest in Ukraine in the last 20 years, making it difficult for Roma families to survive the frigid temperatures. These families struggle to put food on the table, so buying firewood to keep them warm is a luxury most can only dream about. Thanks to Orphan’s Promise, this dream has become a reality for 12 Roma families who were gifted with loads of firewood for the winter. One of the families who received firewood is especially needy. The husband, Viragi, is handicapped and unable to work. He and his wife have two sons, and only survive with the help of his...Read more

"THIS DOG FOR SALE!" Neighbors in a small Romanian village witnessed a father dragging a small boy around the village on a leash, mocking, and treating him like a dog. The scene was so alarming that the authorities were called and the boy was taken from his father. An investigation uncovered years of physical abuse, such as burns from putting him in scalding water, and ongoing psychological abuse. The small child had been tortured by his father. Soon after, Dani* came to live at Darius House, a small home that actively seeks to find forever families for orphans and at-risk children. Orphan’s...Read more

I love the Super Bowl… in fact I started out as a sports reporter. But more recently I have become aware of the connection between the sexual exploitation of women and the sports industry. The fact that the sex trade “gears up” for the Super Bowl is disturbing and unacceptable and it prompts me to write these blogs. Let’s pray for girls to be reached and set free during ministry outreaches happening Super Bowl weekend in Houston. The first time I found myself in an area with a sex trade was years ago in Amsterdam where prostitution was legal. I was a few years out of college, traveling with a...Read more

The fact that the sex trade “gears up” for the Super Bowl is disturbing and unacceptable and it prompts me to write these blogs. The bright afternoon sunshine exploded on my face and I felt shaken inside. The journalist/producer in me...Read more

This trip has been a whirlwind. Six days, five nights, two cities, hundreds of children and enough blessings to last a lifetime. At times it felt like the days flew by, other times, it seemed as though we’d been here forever. I leave Haiti with a new appreciation for the ‘creature comforts’ of home, and an even greater appreciation for the Haitian people. They are beautiful in every sense of the word. Sure, their country has its flaws and could absolutely use a complete makeover from the top down, but the Haitian people are resilient, hard-working and sincere in their love of God and their...Read more

Well, we’re here. Cap Haitien, Haiti……many would consider this a “4 th world” country, and judging by the drive from the airport to the hotel I’m not sure I’d disagree with that assessment. I knew coming to Haiti for the first time would open my eyes, but today was almost surreal. It felt a little bit like a movie as we drove through the crowded streets of Cap Haitien, studied carefully by every pair of eyes we met. I was warned about the smell before I came, but the smell is not the first thing that jumped out at me. It was really just the trash. It is everywhere; In the streets, on the...Read more

Two thumbs up!!! The parents at an Orphan’s Promise sponsored school in Vanuatu, South Pacific, are giving rave reviews. Mom of Andriana & Delphina: I thank the school for letting my girls use computer in school -- they won't have the chance if they go to other schools. Elsie, Mom with 4 children: My two older kids go to school a long way from here so I felt peace inside and full of gladness to have my younger kids walk (just) two minutes to school. Mike’s Dad: Mike loves to come to school and he seems to be happy. The South Pacific island where these families live is plagued with high...Read more

Khushi always had a desire to learn, but those around her did not value education. Instead of going to school, she stayed home to care for her siblings while her mother went to find work. The family lives in a slum community near the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains in India. Most of the people there are uneducated and very poor. Khushi was 8 when finally her mother decided she could go to school. She was so excited… but that faded fast as she found terrible conditions and very little instruction at the local government school. Then a friend told her about an education center sponsored by...Read more
